The Services SETA hosted its 2019/20 Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 28 January 2021. The hybrid event had a few stakeholders at the Services SETA Head Office while the rest of the stakeholders connected virtually.

The Chairperson of the Accounting Authority (AA), Mr. Stephen De Vries opened the meeting by requesting attendees to observe a moment of silence for all South Africans that have lost their lives to Covid-19, including its former AA Member, Mr. Victor Msomi.

Mr. De Vries introduced the new AA and gave an overview of the Board’s immediate responsibilities following their appointment at the beginning of South Africa’s first lockdown in April 2020. He took the meeting through highlights of the 2019/20 financial year. Although the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) gave the Services SETA a qualified opinion, the AA committed itself to monitor the implementation of the Audit Action Plan to avoid repeat findings. The Chairperson highlighted Board’s priorities and emphasized the need for transparent communication and collaboration with stakeholders.

The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Menzi Fakude presented the Annual Report, highlights and challenges, the current financial position of the organisation and the outlook of the future. He highlighted the areas that contributed to the qualified audit. He further mentioned the strategy to reduce over commitments and key focus areas for the future.

Following presentations of the Financial Statements by the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Tsheola Matsebe, the meeting adopted the Annual Budget and Annual Performance Plans for 2020/21 to be recommended to the Minister.
