On 13-14 February 2020 Services SETA
hosted a Cooperative and SMME training workshop at the head office in Parktown,
Johannesburg. In attendance were over 50 entrepreneurs, cooperative groups from
townships in Gauteng.
Leon Grobler boardroom was the setting for the 2 day session which filled to
capacity with an enthusiastic audience ready to engage. The aim of the workshop
was to equip the entrepreneurs with essential marketing and finance skills.
1 was dedicated to marketing. The session set out to provide SMMEs with
knowledge to define marketing pertaining to SMMEs and how market segmentation,
positioning and the competitive environment impacts on their business model.
training the SMMEs will be able to draft a marketing plan for their business
and design a marketing campaign using social media. The session was very
engaging with insights and stories being shared by all on how they would apply
their new skill set going forward.
Day 2 had a focus on finance. Training was to develop
the appropriate skills and knowledge required by a person for sourcing and
managing finances of a small to medium business venture and address the
economic, administrative and behaviourial barriers that contribute to success
in starting and sustaining the venture.
The bulk of the SMMEs in attendance expressed that
access and managing funding was a major stumbling block from growing the
business. They were also inducted into leveraging existing and initiating
cooperative business relationship that can aid with the desired growth.
Various financing options were discussed and insights
were shared on the right one for their particular venture.
