On 13-14 February 2020 Services SETA hosted a Cooperative and SMME training workshop at the head office in Parktown, Johannesburg. In attendance were over 50 entrepreneurs, cooperative groups from townships in Gauteng.

The Leon Grobler boardroom was the setting for the 2 day session which filled to capacity with an enthusiastic audience ready to engage. The aim of the workshop was to equip the entrepreneurs with essential marketing and finance skills.

Day 1 was dedicated to marketing. The session set out to provide SMMEs with knowledge to define marketing pertaining to SMMEs and how market segmentation, positioning and the competitive environment impacts on their business model.

After training the SMMEs will be able to draft a marketing plan for their business and design a marketing campaign using social media. The session was very engaging with insights and stories being shared by all on how they would apply their new skill set going forward.

Day 2 had a focus on finance. Training was to develop the appropriate skills and knowledge required by a person for sourcing and managing finances of a small to medium business venture and address the economic, administrative and behaviourial barriers that contribute to success in starting and sustaining the venture.

The bulk of the SMMEs in attendance expressed that access and managing funding was a major stumbling block from growing the business. They were also inducted into leveraging existing and initiating cooperative business relationship that can aid with the desired growth.

Various financing options were discussed and insights were shared on the right one for their particular venture.

We wish all the SMMEs gained valuable knowledge and skills form this session, we wish them success and prosperity.
